Lexicalist hypothesis

Lexicalist hypothesis is a hypothesis proposed by Noam Chomsky in which he claims that syntactic transformations only can operate on syntactic constituents. The hypothesis states that the system of grammar that assembles words is separate and different from the system of grammar that assembles phrases out of words. There are two versions of lexicalist hypothesis: "weak" and "strong." In the "weak" version the transformations could not operate on the derivational words; whereas in "strong" approach, the transformations can neither operate on derivational and inflectional words. Lexicalist hypothesis is a response to generative semanticians who use transformations in the derivation of complex words. There are objections to the hypothesis such as distributed morphology. The Lexical Integrity Hypothesis is a subset of the Lexicalist Hypothesis. (Wikipedia).

LambdaConf 2015 - Type Theory and its Meaning Explanations Jon Sterling

At the heart of intuitionistic type theory lies an intuitive semantics called the “meaning explanations." Crucially, when meaning explanations are taken as definitive for type theory, the core notion is no longer “proof” but “verification”. We’ll explore how type theories of this sort aris

Why You Should Never Say "It's Just A Theory"

A portion of our culture distrusts the scientific method, assuming that there are transcendent truths unknowable by science. But nothing is truly out of bounds for science. If it's real, it can be studied, and tested. Perhaps the greatest misunderstanding our culture has about the scientif

Understanding and computing the Riemann zeta function

In this video I explain Riemann's zeta function and the Riemann hypothesis. I also implement and algorithm to compute the return values - here's the Python script:https://gist.github.com/Nikolaj-K/996dba1ff1045d767b10d4d07b1b032f

LambdaConf 2015 - Introduction to Intuitionistic Type Theory Vlad Patryshev

Traditionally, in Computer Science, sets are assumed to be the basis of a type theory, together with Boolean logic. In this version of type theory, we do not need sets or Boolean logic; intuitionism is enough ("no principle of excluded middle required"). The underlying math is Topos Theory
