Three-twist knot

In knot theory, the three-twist knot is the twist knot with three-half twists. It is listed as the 52 knot in the Alexander-Briggs notation, and is one of two knots with crossing number five, the other being the cinquefoil knot. (Wikipedia).

The interesting sum of three angles problem!

Three squares are placed in a row. Connect the bottom left corner of each square to the top right corner of the third square, forming angles with measures a, b, c with the horizontal. What is the sum of a, b, and c? Many people requested this problem, and I thank Roberto O. and Cardist wh

How to Tie a Taut Line Knot

This knot is very useful for adjusting tie downs quickly and easily. For example, a tarp could be held down by a series of these knots and be made very tight so the wind cannot make it rise, and easily be removed simply by sliding the knots later. A taut line knot is also used to keep larg

Abstract: Twisting a knot K in S3 along a disjoint unknot c produces a twist family of knots {Kn} indexed by the integers. Comparing the behaviors of the Seifert genus g(Kn) and the slice genus g4(Kn) under twistings, we prove that if g(Kn)−g4(Kn) [is less than] C for some constant C for i
