Survival rate

Survival rate is a part of survival analysis. It is the proportion of people in a study or treatment group still alive at a given period of time after diagnosis. It is a method of describing prognosis in certain disease conditions, and can be used for the assessment of standards of therapy. The survival period is usually reckoned from date of diagnosis or start of treatment. Survival rates are based on the population as a whole and cannot be applied directly to an individual. There are various types of survival rates (discussed below). They often serve as endpoints of clinical trials and should not be confused with mortality rates, a population metric. (Wikipedia).

Survival vs Mortality Rates: Healthcare Triage #7

Almost every time someone wants to proclaim the US to be the "best in the world" in health care, they point to survival rates. Those refer to the percent of people who live a certain amount of time after they've been diagnosed with a disease. But there are real problems in using survival r

What TV Shows Get Wrong About CPR

Medical TV shows are entertaining and dramatic, but many don’t show accurate survival rates from CPR. Some TV shows are overestimating CPR survival by more than twice real-life CPR survival rates. #CPR #Survival #ScienceInsider The following is a transcript of the video: You're glued to

Principles of Evolution, Ecology and Behavior (EEB 122) The growth of populations is held in check by several factors. These can include predators, food and other resources, and density. Population density affects growth rate by determining how likely is it that an organism will interac

Conditional default probability (hazard rate)

Study note: Hazard rate (default intensity) is a conditional PD but it connotes an instantaneous rate of failure. As such, it can be used with elegance in the exponential distribution to compute the cumulative probability of default (cumulative PD). The conditional PD is the probability o
