Homotopy theory

Puppe sequence

In mathematics, the Puppe sequence is a construction of homotopy theory, so named after Dieter Puppe. It comes in two forms: a long exact sequence, built from the mapping fibre (a fibration), and a long coexact sequence, built from the mapping cone (which is a cofibration). Intuitively, the Puppe sequence allows us to think of homology theory as a functor that takes spaces to long-exact sequences of groups. It is also useful as a tool to build long exact sequences of relative homotopy groups. (Wikipedia).

Differentiable manifolds and quadratic forms (revisited) Professor Matthias Kreck (Bonn University)

This is the title of a lovely book by two of my mathematical heroes: Friedrich Hirzebruch and Walter Neumann. I will add a little chapter to it by building a bridge from -manifolds to unimodular lattices in R^n via self dual binary codes. This is based on older work with Volker Puppe and m

Gregory Henselman-Petrusek (9/28/22): Saecular persistence

Homology with field coefficients has become a mainstay of modern TDA, thanks in part to structure theorems which decompose the corresponding persistence modules. This naturally begs the question -- what of integer coefficients? Or homotopy? We introduce saecular persistence, a categoric

Introduction to sequences

We define the idea of a sequence, and infinite ordered list of objects and see some examples of how they are defined. Sequences can be defined with an explicit formula or simply list the elements of the sequence until the pattern is clear. â–ºFull DISCRETE MATH Course Playlist: https://www

The formal definition of a sequence.

We have an intuitive picture of sequences (infinite ordered lists). But there is a formal definition of sequences based out of the idea of a specific function between sets, specifically from the positive integers to the real numbers. â–ºFull DISCRETE MATH Course Playlist: https://www.youtu

Intro to Sequences | Calculus, Real Analysis

We introduce sequences, consider them as functions, and go over some sequence notation as well as other concepts and terminology in today's lesson video lesson on sequences! A sequence is a list of numbers in some definite order. Each number in a sequence is called a term of the sequence.

Which Sequences are Graphical? (Degree Sequences and Havel-Hakimi algorithm) | Graph Theory

How do we determine if a sequence is graphical? Remember that a sequence is graphical if it is the degree sequence of some graph. It is of course very easy, given a graph, to find its degree sequence. We just identify the degrees of its vertices then write those degrees in non-increasing o
