Families of sets | Enumerative combinatorics
In combinatorial mathematics, the topic of noncrossing partitions has assumed some importance because of (among other things) its application to the theory of free probability. The number of noncrossing partitions of a set of n elements is the nth Catalan number. The number of noncrossing partitions of an n-element set with k blocks is found in the Narayana number triangle. Sira Gratz: Noncrossing partitions and thick subcategories
The lecture was held within the framework of the Hausdorff Trimester Program: Symplectic Geometry and Representation Theory. Abstract: Ingalls and Thomas have shown that the lattice of non-crossing partitions of a regular polygon with n+1 vertices is isomorphic to the lattice of thick sub

Example of Countable Partition
Real Analysis: We give an example of a partition of the natural numbers N consisting of a countably infinite number of countably infinite subsets. Conversely we note that a countable union of countably infinite sets is countably infinite.

We have seen an example of partitioning in the previous video. These partitioned sets are called equivalence sets or equivalence classes. In this video we look at some notation.

Hierarchical Clustering 3: single-link vs. complete-link
[http://bit.ly/s-link] Agglomerative clustering needs a mechanism for measuring the distance between two clusters, and we have many different ways of measuring such a distance. We explain the similarities and differences between single-link, complete-link, average-link, centroid method and

Partitions of a Set | Set Theory
What is a partition of a set? Partitions are very useful in many different areas of mathematics, so it's an important concept to understand. We'll define partitions of sets and give examples in today's lesson! A partition of a set is basically a way of splitting a set completely into disj

The rectangle is devided into two groups of four sectors. The interaction of red or pink pins and violet U-shaped parts helps to deploy the rectangle. Input: one among two pink gears. It can be used for deploying a partition. STEP files of this video: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ros2n46q
