Iwasawa decomposition

In mathematics, the Iwasawa decomposition (aka KAN from its expression) of a semisimple Lie group generalises the way a square real matrix can be written as a product of an orthogonal matrix and an upper triangular matrix (QR decomposition, a consequence of Gram–Schmidt orthogonalization). It is named after Kenkichi Iwasawa, the Japanese mathematician who developed this method. (Wikipedia).

Making ferrofluid from scratch

Back in October, I tried making ferrofluid but I kept failing and I ended up giving up for a while. Months later though, I got inspired, and I spent an insane amount of time researching ferrofluid and trying to make it. It was a very messy and sometimes frustrating process, but I was event

Root numbers and parity of local Iwasawa invariants by Suman Ahmed

12 December 2016 to 22 December 2016 VENUE : Madhava Lecture Hall, ICTS Bangalore The Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture is a striking example of conjectures in number theory, specifically in arithmetic geometry, that has abundant numerical evidence but not a complete general solution.

Lie groups: Lie groups and Lie algebras

This lecture is part of an online graduate course on Lie groups. We discuss the relation between Lie groups and Lie algebras, and give several examples showing how they behave differently. Lie algebras turn out to correspond more closely to the simply connected Lie groups. We then explain
