Card shuffling | Permutation patterns
A Gilbreath shuffle is a way to shuffle a deck of cards, named after mathematician Norman Gilbreath (also known for Gilbreath's conjecture). Gilbreath's principle describes the properties of a deck that are preserved by this type of shuffle, and a Gilbreath permutation is a permutation that can be formed by a Gilbreath shuffle. Eric Hoffbeck: Shuffles of trees
Abstract: We study a notion of shuffle for trees which extends the usual notion of a shuffle for two natural numbers. Our notion of shuffle is motivated by the theory of operads and occurs in the theory of dendroidal sets. We give several equivalent descriptions of the shuffles, and prove

This came as a surprise. Although it looks like an example with smooth time-stepping, it is not. It is with original, simple time-stepping. I'm not exactly sure what this means. Maybe my smooth time-stepping method is superfluous.
