Normal distribution | Central limit theorem

Galton board

The Galton board, also known as the Galton box or quincunx or bean machine, is a device invented by Sir Francis Galton to demonstrate the central limit theorem, in particular that with sufficient sample size the binomial distribution approximates a normal distribution. Among its applications, it afforded insight into regression to the mean or "reversion to mediocrity". (Wikipedia).

A molecular Galton board

In this simulation, I had some fun recreating a Galton board with Lennard-Jones particles. The particles are added at regularly spaced times on the top of the board, with slightly randomized x coordinates. The idea is that each time a particle hits a peg, it has about 50% chance to go to t
