Statistical ratios | Statistical tests | Analysis of variance
An F-test is any statistical test in which the test statistic has an F-distribution under the null hypothesis. It is most often used when comparing statistical models that have been fitted to a data set, in order to identify the model that best fits the population from which the data were sampled. Exact "F-tests" mainly arise when the models have been fitted to the data using least squares. The name was coined by George W. Snedecor, in honour of Ronald Fisher. Fisher initially developed the statistic as the variance ratio in the 1920s. (Wikipedia).

F-measure is a harmonic mean of recall and precision. Think of it as accuracy, but without the effect of true negatives (which made accuracy meaningless for evaluating search algorithms). F-measure can also be interpreted as the Dice coefficient between the relevant set and the retrieved s

Integral Transforms Lecture 3: Distributions. Oxford Mathematics 2nd Year Student Lecture
This short course from Sam Howison, all 9 lectures of which we are making available (this is lecture 3), introduces two vital ideas. First, we look at distributions (or generalised functions) and in particular the mathematical representation of a 'point mass' as the Dirac delta function.
