Game theory equilibrium concepts
Equilibrium selection is a concept from game theory which seeks to address reasons for players of a game to select a certain equilibrium over another. The concept is especially relevant in evolutionary game theory, where the different methods of equilibrium selection respond to different ideas of what equilibria will be stable and persistent for one player to play even in the face of deviations (and mutations) of the other players. This is important because there are various equilibrium concepts, and for many particular concepts, such as the Nash equilibrium, many games have multiple equilibria. (Wikipedia).
Equilibrium occurs when the overall state of a system is constant. Equilibrium can be static (nothing in the system is changing), or dynamic (little parts of the system are changing, but overall the state isn't changing). In my video, I'll demonstrate systems in both types of equilibrium,

[T1 2022] Michael Scott: Equilibrium allele frequencies in terms of invasion and fixation conditions
Joint work with Matthew Osmond. Genetic variation can be maintained by balancing selection. This requires that an allele `invades' (increases in frequency when rare) but does not `˝x' (declines near 100% fre-quency). Balancing selection pushes these alleles towards an intermediate `equili

3. Adaptive Evolution: Natural Selection
Principles of Evolution, Ecology and Behavior (EEB 122) Adaptive Evolution is driven by natural selection. Natural selection is not "survival of the fittest," but rather "reproduction of the fittest." Evolution can occur at many different speeds based on the strength of the selection dr

Paul Andersen explains the importance of selection in biology. Artificial selection occurs when humans choose traits that will be selected for or against. This has created the variety of domesticated animals and crops. He then describes the three main types of ecological natural selecti

Selection (5), perturbation analysis.
This video describes how a technique called perturbation analysis can be used to examine equilibria such as those seen for overdominant alleles to see if the equilibria are stable or unstable.

One of the most widely cited hypotheses to explain the evolutionary maintenance of sex and recombination states that recombination increases the efficiency of natural selection by reducing interference among selected loci. Until recently, this possible benefit of re-combination was quanti˝

This video shows how we model the genotype frequency changes caused by mutation. Since most mutations are deleterious, we model the balance between recurrent mutation and selection which leads to an equilibrium frequency of these deleterious alleles in the population. The derivation of the
