Weakly symmetric space

In mathematics, a weakly symmetric space is a notion introduced by the Norwegian mathematician Atle Selberg in the 1950s as a generalisation of symmetric space, due to Élie Cartan. Geometrically the spaces are defined as complete Riemannian manifolds such that any two points can be exchanged by an isometry, the symmetric case being when the isometry is required to have period two. The classification of weakly symmetric spaces relies on that of periodic automorphisms of complex semisimple Lie algebras. They provide examples of Gelfand pairs, although the corresponding theory of spherical functions in harmonic analysis, known for symmetric spaces, has not yet been developed. (Wikipedia).

A WEIRD VECTOR SPACE: Building a Vector Space with Symmetry | Nathan Dalaklis

We'll spend time in this video on a weird vector space that can be built by developing the ideas around symmetry. In the process of building a vector space with symmetry at its core, we'll go through a ton of different ideas across a handful of mathematical fields. Naturally, we will start

Teach Astronomy - Galaxy Environment

http://www.teachastronomy.com/ Galaxies cluster due to gravity, and so galaxies are not typically found isolated in space. Different galaxy types occupy different typical environments in the universe. Spiral galaxies tend particularly to be found in loose groups or weak concentrations.

What is a Symmetry?

Symmetries show up everywhere in physics. But what is a symmetry? While the symmetries of shapes can be interesting, a lot of times, we are more interested in symmetries of space or symmetries of spacetime. To describe these, we need to build "invariants" which give a mathematical represen
