Stochastic processes

Regenerative process

In applied probability, a regenerative process is a class of stochastic process with the property that certain portions of the process can be treated as being statistically independent of each other. This property can be used in the derivation of theoretical properties of such processes. (Wikipedia).

Symmetrization

In this video, I define a cool operation called the symmetrization, which turns any matrix into a symmetric matrix. Along the way, I also explain how to show that an (abstract) linear transformation is one-to-one and onto. Finally, I show how to decompose and matrix in a nice way, sort of

Teach Astronomy - Definition of Life

http://www.teachastronomy.com/ What is life? This simple question is amazingly difficult to answer. Even biologists cannot utterly agree on it. At one extreme, if we are too specific in our definition of life, we exclude the possibility that life might not be based, for example, on carb
