Braids

Ply-split braiding

Ply-split braiding is a technique where one twisted cord ("splitter") passes through another twisted cord or cords splitting the plies of the latter cords ("splittee" cords). This is unlike weaving or many forms of braiding where cloth is formed by threads interlacing in an over-under sequence. Pattern is formed by cord color, and splitting order. (Wikipedia).

Teardrop linkage, in Lego

A tweet by @ChocoLinkage (https://twitter.com/ChocoLinkage/status/1174513390514921473) showed a teardrop shape being drawn by a mechanical linkage. I've tried to recreate it in Lego. Only one half works because it is difficult to avoid parts having to pass through each other.

16. Splitting data in train/val/test splits

When we evaluate and train our models, we need to do so on separate training, validation, and test data sets. In this video we describe the best ways to split this data up and some things to keep in mind as we try to avoid data leakage and poor model generalizability. Check out the whole

How do we discover MAJORANA PARTICLES in NANOWIRES?

Majorana particles are real solutions of the Dirac equation, representing their own antiparticles. In the condensed matter context, Majorana refers to electronic modes in nanostructures described by peculiar ‘pulled-apart’ wavefunctions and by hypothesized non-Abelian exchange. This last

Abstract: On fundamental groups, the discriminant ∏i≠k(zi – zk) ∈ C^× of a finite collection of points of the plane defines the abelianization homomorphism sending a braid to its number of overcrossings less undercrossings or writhe. In terms of diffeomorphisms of the punctured plane, it
