P-constrained group

In mathematics, a p-constrained group is a finite group resembling the centralizer of an element of prime order p in a group of Lie type over a finite field of characteristic p. They were introduced by Gorenstein and Walter in order to extend some of Thompson's results about odd groups to groups with dihedral Sylow 2-subgroups. (Wikipedia).

Group theory 31: Free groups

This lecture is part of an online math course on group theory. We review free abelian groups, then construct free (non-abelian) groups, and show that they are given by the set of reduced words, and as a bonus find that they are residually finite.

Pierre Py - Complex geometry and higher finiteness properties of groups

Following C.T.C. Wall, we say that a group G is of type if it has a classifying space (a K(G,1)) whose n-skeleton is finite. When n=1 (resp. n=2) one recovers the condition of finite generation (resp. finite presentation). The study of examples of groups which are of type Fn-1 but not of

What is a Group? | Abstract Algebra

Welcome to group theory! In today's lesson we'll be going over the definition of a group. We'll see the four group axioms in action with some examples, and some non-examples as well which violate the axioms and are thus not groups. In a fundamental way, groups are structures built from s

Groups of Prime Order p are Cyclic with p-1 Generators Proof

Please Subscribe here, thank you!!! https://goo.gl/JQ8Nys Groups of Prime Order p are Cyclic with p-1 Generators Proof. In this video we prove that if G is a finite group whose order is a prime number p, then G is cyclic and every non identity element is a generator. Since G has p-1 non id
