Latent variable models

Mokken scale

The Mokken scale is a psychometric method of data reduction. A Mokken scale is a unidimensional scale that consists of hierarchically-ordered items that measure the same underlying, latent concept. This method is named after the political scientist Rob Mokken who suggested it in 1971. Mokken Scales have been used in psychology, education, political science, public opinion, medicine and nursing. Slide Rule Roundup -- Non-Duplex Scale Sets

A quick look at the common layouts of non-duplex slide rules: Mannheim, Rietz, Darmstadt, and a few others for good measure. Notes: - I accidentally said "Rietz" in one place where I should have said "Darmstadt."

Two operations with one slide using folded scales

This video gives a technique for computing any sequence of two multiplications/divisions, in any order, on a slide rule with a full set of folded scales (you need C/D/CI/CF/DF/CIF). This increases the accuracy of the result versus using the naive method of one setting per operation. I'm n

A tale of two dynamos: turbulent large-scale and small-scale dynamos by Pallavi Bhat

Abstract: Coherent magnetic fields are ubiquitous in the universe as in the Sun, stars, galaxies and galaxy clusters. The theory of turbulent dynamos is the leading paradigm to understand the origin of these magnetic fields. A particularly generic process in turbulent astrophysical system

Overview of fancier slide rules (folded scales, extended scales, LL scales)

Want to "level-up" your slide-rule ability? This video is a short introduction to the more advanced scales found on scientific slide rules. I think it's one of my best videos. It gives an overview of folded scales (e.g. CF/DF), extended scales (e.g. ST/T2), and log-log scales (LL). This v
