Material requirements planning

Material requirements planning (MRP) is a production planning, scheduling, and inventory control system used to manage manufacturing processes. Most MRP systems are software-based, but it is possible to conduct MRP by hand as well. An MRP system is intended to simultaneously meet three objectives: * Ensure raw materials are available for production and products are available for delivery to customers. * Maintain the lowest possible material and product levels in store * Plan manufacturing activities, delivery schedules and purchasing activities. Different stress types

Testing mechanical properties of materials is critical. Fortunately, there are ASTM standards and protocols for testing materials. Stress can be tension, compression, shear, or torsion. We can also calculate the resolved shear stress and normal stress at an arbitrary plane within a materia

Crystalline vs Amorphous materials

Materials are either crystalline or amorphous. They contain long-range periodic order or they do not. This leads to very different properties! Crystalline materials can be either polycrystalline or single crystal in nature. we can see evidence of single crystals in faceting of crystal face

Heat capacity

An important thermal property is heat capacity which is the amount of energy that gets absorbed to make some quantity of material increase 1 degree in temperature. This can be per mole or per mass (specific heat capacity). Heat capacity increases until the Dulong-Petit limit of 3R above th
