Functions related to probability distributions

Marcum Q-function

In statistics, the generalized Marcum Q-function of order is defined as where and and is the modified Bessel function of first kind of order . If , the integral converges for any . The Marcum Q-function occurs as a complementary cumulative distribution function for noncentral chi, noncentral chi-squared, and Rice distributions. In engineering, this function appears in the study of radar systems, communication systems, queueing system, and signal processing. This function was first studied for , and hence named after, by Jess Marcum for pulsed radars. (Wikipedia).

Mama, Where Do Galaxies Come From?

For most of human history, we didn't know that galaxies were a thing. So over the past century, astronomers have been working to understand how galaxies come to be and how they evolve over time. And for a full decade, there was one telescope helping to light the way. Hosted By: Hank Green

A Forgotten Feud of "Bloody" Breathitt County, Kentucky

The Hatfields and McCoys were not the only notable Kentucky feud in history. A turn of the century feud in Breathitt County called the Hargis-Marcum-Cockrill-Callahan Affair was just as startling, but far less well known. The History Guy remembers a forgotten feud in United States history.
