Obsolete units of measurement | Units of mass

Lot (weight)

The Lot (formerly also written Loth) was a unit of measurement of mass, which was mainly used in German-speaking states of the Holy Roman Empire and in Scandinavia. It was replaced in the German Reich in 1868/69/72, in Austria in 1871/76 and in Switzerland in 1875/77 by the metric unit of measurement, the gramme. But in the early 20th century it was still used as a popular unit of measure in cooking and baking recipes. An imprecise but clear rule of thumb is that a lot corresponds to a "spoonful". Gravitation (3 of 17) Mass vs Weight, An Explanation

Explains the difference between mass and weight. Very important. No they are not the same thing. Mass is a measure of the amount "stuff" something is made of, the amount of atoms for example. Weight is a measure of the force of attraction between two object that have mass. Of course mass

Teach Astronomy - Mass and Weight

http://www.teachastronomy.com/ People use the words interchangeably, but there is a big difference between the concept of mass and the concept of weight. Mass is the amount of stuff in an object, or the number of atoms, measured in units of kilograms. Weight however is the response of an

The Difference Between Mass and Weight

There is a common perception that weight and mass are basically the same thing. This video aims to tease out the difference between mass and weight by asking people what makes a car difficult to push. The standard answer is that it is difficult to push because it's heavy. But heaviness is
