Isoclinism of groups

In mathematics, specifically group theory, isoclinism is an equivalence relation on groups which generalizes isomorphism. Isoclinism was introduced by to help classify and understand p-groups, although it is applicable to all groups. Isoclinism also has consequences for the Schur multiplier and the associated aspects of character theory, as described in , p. 256) and , p. xxiii, Ch. 6.7). The word "isoclinism" comes from the Greek ισοκλινης meaning equal slope. Some textbooks discussing isoclinism include , §29) and , §21.2) and , pp. 92–95). (Wikipedia).

Example of Group Isomorphism

Abstract Algebra: An abelian group G has order p^2, where p is a prime number. Show that G is isomorphic to either a cyclic group of order p^2 or a product of cyclic groups of order p. We emphasize that the isomorphic property usually requires construction of an isomorphism.

GT9. Group Isomorphisms

Abstract Algebra: In analogy with bijections for sets, we define isomorphisms for groups. We note various properties of group isomorphisms and a method for constructing isomorphisms from onto homomorphisms. We also show that isomorphism is an equivalence relation on the class of groups.

Differential Equations: Direction Fields and the Method of Isoclines

Direction fields are useful tools for visualizing the flow of solutions to differential equations. Unfortunately, drawing line segments and calculating their slopes at every point on a grid is painfully slow and boring. There are more efficient ways to sketch direction fields. In this vide
