Indeterminacy (philosophy)

Indeterminacy, in philosophy, can refer both to common scientific and mathematical concepts of uncertainty and their implications and to another kind of indeterminacy deriving from the nature of definition or meaning. It is related to deconstructionism and to Nietzsche's criticism of the Kantian noumenon. (Wikipedia).

The Importance of Atonement

The idea of ‘atonement’ sounds very old-fashioned and is deeply rooted in religious tradition. To atone means, in essence, to acknowledge one’s capacity for wrongness and one’s readiness for apology and desire for change. It’s a concept that every society needs at its center. For gifts and

Unpredictability, Undecidability, and Uncomputability

Quite a number of mathematical theorems prove that the power of mathematics has its limits. But how relevant are these theorems for science? In this video I want to briefly summarize an essay that I just submitted to the essay contest of the Foundational Questions Institute. This year the

Mark Balaguer - Do Humans Have Free Will?

Free will seems so obvious. Whatever I want to do, I just do. But could 'I' be fooled? Some say that free will is an illusion, and they back up their claim with scientific experiments. Others say that free will is a mystery. Still others alter the definition of free will to be 'compatible'

Free will seems the simplest of notions. Why then is free will so vexing to philosophers? Here's why: no one knows how free will works! Science, seemingly, permits no "gaps" in which free will can operate. Featuring interviews with John Searle, Rodolfo Llinas, Eran Zaidel, Roger Walsh, Mik

Why You Should Never Say "It's Just A Theory"

A portion of our culture distrusts the scientific method, assuming that there are transcendent truths unknowable by science. But nothing is truly out of bounds for science. If it's real, it can be studied, and tested. Perhaps the greatest misunderstanding our culture has about the scientif
