In geometry, Hironaka's example is a non-Kähler complex manifold that is a deformation of Kähler manifolds found by Heisuke Hironaka . Hironaka's example can be used to show that several other plausible statements holding for smooth varieties of dimension at most 2 fail for smooth varieties of dimension at least 3. (Wikipedia).
Michael Temkin - Logarithmic geometry and resolution of singularities
Correction: The affiliation of Lei Fu is Tsinghua University. I will tell about recent developments in resolution of singularities achieved in a series of works with Abramovich and Wlodarczyk – resolution of log varieties, resolution of morphisms and a no-history (or dream) algorithm for

Schemes 26: Abstract and projective varieties
This lecture is part of an online algebraic geometry course on schemes, based on chapter II of "Algebraic geometry" by Hartshorne. We discuss the relation between abstract, projective, and complete varieties, and given an example found by Hironaka of a complete variety that is not projecti

Dan Abramovich (Brown University) / 28.06.2019 Resolution in characteristic 0 using weighted blowing up. Given a variety, one wants to blow up the worst singular locus, show that it gets better, and iterate until the singularities are resolved. Examples such as the whitney umbrella show

Schemes 25: Proper morphisms and valuations
This lecture is part of an online algebraic geometry course on schemes, based on chapter II of "Algebraic geometry" by Hartshorne. We describe how to test a morphism for being proper using discrete valuation rings, and use this to show that projective morphisms are proper.
