Quantum models

Free particle

In physics, a free particle is a particle that, in some sense, is not bound by an external force, or equivalently not in a region where its potential energy varies. In classical physics, this means the particle is present in a "field-free" space. In quantum mechanics, it means the particle is in a region of uniform potential, usually set to zero in the region of interest since the potential can be arbitrarily set to zero at any point in space. Sarah Penington (Bath) -- Brownian bees in the infinite swarm limit

Consider a system of N particles moving according to Brownian motions and branching at rate one. Each time a particle branches, the particle in the system furthest from the origin is killed. The large N and large time behaviour of the system is related to solutions of a novel non-linear fr

[Lesson 19] QED Prerequisites: Least Action and the Free Particle

In this lesson we apply some fundamental philosophical principles to generate a Lagrangian function for the free particle. We examine the relativistic and non-relativistic case. The goal is to understand that when we are examining fundamental physical principles we will inevitably apply gu
