Queueing theory

Fluid limit

In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, a fluid limit, fluid approximation or fluid analysis of a stochastic model is a deterministic real-valued process which approximates the evolution of a given stochastic process, usually subject to some scaling or limiting criteria. Fluid limits were first introduced by Thomas G. Kurtz publishing a law of large numbers and central limit theorem for Markov chains. It is known that a queueing network can be stable, but have an unstable fluid limit. (Wikipedia).

Absolute Pressure vs Gauge Pressure - Fluid Mechanics - Physics Problems

This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into absolute pressure and gauge pressure. The gauge pressure is the difference between the absolute pressure and the atmospheric pressure. A positive gauge pressure means the absolute pressure is above the atmospheric pressure.

Poiseuille's Law (16 tubes vs 1 tube)

The laminar flow rate of an incompressible fluid along a pipe is proportional to the fourth power of the pipe's radius. To test this idea, we'll show that you need sixteen tubes to pass as much water as one tube with twice their diameter. We have two tanks of equal dimension next to each

Fluids, walls and vanishing viscosity – Helena Nussenzveig Lopes – ICM2018

Partial Differential Equations Invited Lecture 10.6 Fluids, walls and vanishing viscosity Helena Nussenzveig Lopes Abstract: The vanishing viscosity problem consists of understanding the limit, or limits, of solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations, with viscosity ν, as ν tends to zero.
