Trees (set theory) | Topological spaces

Cantor tree

In mathematical set theory, the Cantor tree is either the full binary tree of height ω + 1, or a topological space related to this by joining its points with intervals, that was introduced by Robert Lee Moore in the late 1920s as an example of a non-metrizable Moore space. (Wikipedia).

What's The Oldest Tree in the World?

Ancient trees are fascinating, but the answer to the question in the title isn't as cut and dried as it might first seem. There are two major contenders for the superlative, and Hank has all the important information on both of them in this episode of SciShow. Which one would you give th

G. Walsh - Boundaries of Kleinian groups

We study the problem of classifying Kleinian groups via the topology of their limit sets. In particular, we are interested in one-ended convex-cocompact Kleinian groups where each piece in the JSJ decomposition is a free group, and we describe interesting examples in this situation. In ce

I Used the Cantor Set Construction to Make a Short Horror Clip | Nathan Dalaklis

It can be hard to wrap one's head around what points are in a fractal; real or constructed, but the Cantor Set is a good starting point. In an effort to make something to build one's tuition about the 'organized roughness' of fractals, I ended up making something truly horrifying. Enjoy.

This is the first of four lectures from Robin Knight's 3rd Year Set Theory course. Robin writes: "Infinity baffled mathematicians, and everyone else, for thousands of years. But around 1870, Georg Cantor worked out how to study infinity in a way that made sense, and created set theory. Mo
