In applied mathematics, bred vectors are perturbations, related to Lyapunov vectors, that capture fast-growing dynamical instabilities of the solution of a numerical model. They are used, for example, as initial perturbations for ensemble forecasting in numerical weather prediction. They were introduced by Zoltan Toth and Eugenia Kalnay. (Wikipedia).
A short refresher on vectors. Before I introduce vector-based functions, it's important to look at vectors themselves and how they are represented in python™ and the IPython Notebook using SymPy.

Mechanisms of Natural Selection Part 1: Types of Sexual Selection
We touched upon sexual selection when we learned about natural selection. Essentially when there is a variance in the reproductive success of a particular sex for a given species, secondary sex characteristics will develop in that species, because one sex has the opportunity to choose a ma

Mechanisms of Natural Selection: Altruism and Kin Selection
We have learned all about so-called "survival of the fittest" which is a phrase we associate with natural selection. We typically associate this concept with competition for resources, but there are situations in which this involves the complete opposite, in the form of cooperative and alt
