Augmentation ideal

In algebra, an augmentation ideal is an ideal that can be defined in any group ring. If G is a group and R a commutative ring, there is a ring homomorphism , called the augmentation map, from the group ring to , defined by taking a (finite) sum to (Here and .) In less formal terms, for any element , for any element , and is then extended to a homomorphism of R-modules in the obvious way. The augmentation ideal A is the kernel of and is therefore a two-sided ideal in R[G]. A is generated by the differences of group elements. Equivalently, it is also generated by , which is a basis as a free R-module. For R and G as above, the group ring R[G] is an example of an augmented R-algebra. Such an algebra comes equipped with a ring homomorphism to R. The kernel of this homomorphism is the augmentation ideal of the algebra. The augmentation ideal plays a basic role in group cohomology, amongst other applications. (Wikipedia).

The Most Powerful Software Development Process Is The Easiest

What would an ideal software development process look like? What if we could do the minimum amount of work and get the maximum results from it? If we could then surely that would be the best software development process of all. What if we applied software engineering thinking to minimising

The Importance of Atonement

The idea of ‘atonement’ sounds very old-fashioned and is deeply rooted in religious tradition. To atone means, in essence, to acknowledge one’s capacity for wrongness and one’s readiness for apology and desire for change. It’s a concept that every society needs at its center. For gifts and

What is “normal” and what is “different”? - Yana Buhrer Tavanier

Discover where our perception of what is normal comes from, and how it impacts the decisions we make. -- The word “normal” is often used as a synonym for "typical," "expected," or even "correct." By that logic, most people should fit the description of normal. But time and time again, so
